standing a little taller
From our Founder:
When I was young and starting out as a father of a new born and a two year old, if learned how difficult life can be to provide for my new and young family during a slump in the economy. I learned about welfare support from the state as well as a great medical insurance plan to ensure adequate services for our families health and well being were provided. I found myself qualified to live in a low-income apartment home that would be manageable with our budget. In the process and during this period of time, I learned of other families who also found themselves in similar situations as mine, only they couldn’t qualify for the same support as my family could or were not as fortunate to get the aid in time.
After I was able to pull my family out of a position of financial hardship, I thought for years of ways that I could help the situation more. I volunteered for several non-profit organizations over the years and even participated in programs for construction of new affordable homes for struggling families. Once thing seemed to be lacking in available support for struggling families and that was just simply improving the housing conditions of many low-income housing programs because the funding capacity is and was inadequate to maintain housing properly. There also is just not many support programs out there to ensure living conditions for impacted children and youth have adequate sanitary and a healthy home. Many people try to avoid entering the homes of low-income impacted families because of circumstances like odors from aging leaks and wear that the family is unable to repair and there is not adequate funding for the repairs and proper education of the parents to perform the repairs.
This is where Standing A Little Taller comes in to lend a helping hand.
